Quiz on Friday!
There will be a quiz on Friday on the Employment Standards Act, resumes, cover letters, and job applications, and interviews. Expect to apply your knowledge - filling out forms, correcting resumes, etc.
Notes are available in class. For the ESA, please focus on the major ideas - the headings and sub headings, and the fill-in-the-blanks sheet.
I am going to be handing back resumes; everyone needs to make necessary corrections and re-submit. A great resume is perhaps the most valuable thing to take away from Planning 10 with you.

End of Term Roundup
I gave out class marks today. If you are missing anything, you need to get it in to me by Friday. Resumes and cover letters are due Thursday. You can submit it to the L drive on the school system (copy paste the file; please re-name it with your name); you can also email it to me at alison.atkinson (at) sd41.bc.ca.
This assignment is worth a fair chunk of marks....also (I hope!) it is a practical, useful tool for each and every one of you. It takes awhile to make your resume perfect, but it is worth it when you start searching for jobs.

The Cave Youth Employment
Check out this place!
http://www.cave-employment.com/
This is a youth employment resource in Burnaby. It exists to help you with job searches, resumes, applications, anything to do with a job. You can drop in for help while they're open, or attend a workshop. There are also jobs posted on the site and it's easy to register. They have a big job fair coming up on April 21 - this would probably be a great place to go if you're in the market for a summer job.

Job Application Assignment
Your mission: apply for a job. You will need a perfect resume and cover letter, and set of references. You also need to show me that you've found a job suitable to your skills, experience, and abilities.
You don't need to actually apply for it, but you might as well spend your time on something useful - so imagine yourself working in a job. What are you doing? Where would you like to be?
Due Thursday April 8. This is a fixed deadline as it's end of term.

Jobs search websites
A few websites to check out for job searches:
http://jobbank.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/Intro_eng.aspx - Canada Job Bank, has a student job search feature
www.vancouver.craigslist.org (there is an extensive job postings section, especially for food/beverage/hospitality)
http://jobsearch.monster.ca/Browse.aspx - this is for Vancouver, and has big, intimidating lists of sectors.
If you have ideas about where you'd like to work (Superstore, Save On Foods, Starbucks, McDonald's, Subway, Costco, other big chains....) try the company website. Often there will be job info right on the site!
